I have some huge news! On October 15, 2016 me and two friends of mine were luckily invited to Loren’s fashion line called ACONAV where he showcased his “Shattered Collection” at Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort & Casino in Scottsdale, AZ. He is Acoma Pueblo and is killing the game using his cultural designs! Representing the native’s he has combined traditional elegant designs that are his own. True to his style the dresses were bold and timeless.
My good friend Kelly Holmes, who is the founder of Native Max Magazine came to show her support and wore a beautiful original Aconav dress. Also Grace Dove -actress from the movie Revenant- came to show her support as well wearing an elegant Aconav dress with a graceful cape. Fine art artist Lehi “ThunderVoice Eagle” came and model Sierra Begaye came with southwest looks that had people’s attention, and definitely the photographers. Blogger Jaclyn Roessel aka Grown Up Navajo with Alana aka The Fancy Navajo showed her support. It was a beautiful night with old and new friends. I love designers that are able to incorporate cultural designs in their clothings (it’s not easy).
Here’s a short clip of Aconav’s models.

What can I say about Santa Fe? I LOVED SANTA FE! Met so many great natives there. Inspirational artists that are down to earth people and so many great memories made this past weekend. I finally met Felicia Gabaldon and had our pictures taken. She’s the coolest and glad to buy a painting from her folky and quirky art style that I love. I met Shane Mcsauby, who is an up and coming director/ writer. Leah Rose who is a talented photographer with her beau Robert Mesa, who is another talented photographer and artist. I’m very grateful to be inspired by these multi-talented artist. Kyle Bell, who had done a documentary on Steven Paul Judd. His movie won best documentary and made me want to drop everything and move to Los Angeles (which reminds me I need to make a trip there again). The down to earth Matika Wilbur, the amazing Sho Sho Esquiro, Jeremiah Bitsuie, Wes Studi, Adam Beach, Kawennahere Devery Jacobs, Larry Price, Mama Long Legs, Morning Star Angeline, Sierra Begay, Tytianna Harris, Lehi ThunderVoice Eagle, Tony Duncan, Steven Paul Judd, Ishkiin, OXDX Clothing…
All in all this weekend spent in Santa Fe was absolutely unforgettable…
I’ll be at the Santa Fe India Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico! There are lots of events happening there and tomorrow Gyasi Ross will be speaking, Bethany Yellowtail will have a pop-up shop, Steven Paul Judd has two movie screenings, Virgil Ortiz and MANY MORE ARTISTS WILL BE AT THE VENUE. Don’t forget to visit OXDX Clothing and ISHKIIN at the fashion show along with SHO SHO ESQUIRO and FELICIA GABALDON ART a booth #109. Of course, I”ll be live tweeting the fashion show 😉
I got the chance to visit Albuquerque, New Mexico during the weekend. I enjoyed whatever time I had left at Gatherings and ended the night at the Rezilience show. I did not get to attend the Pink Party, but I heard some awesome things about it. Jared from OXDX Clothing was there. I got to meet the actress KDevery Jacobs from Rhymes for Young Ghouls (watch it on NETFLIX). Steven Paul Judd got to do a Q & A. Thosh Collins and Chelsea Luger from Well For Culture did a great job presenting their movement (They have some great workouts and visit their page- there are some delicious recipe meals). The actor Martin Sensmeier from the upcoming film Magnificent 7 was there as well!!! SO, many great artists bringing creativity to a memorable day and for a great cause. I enjoyed the show very much. Here’s a small clip from the REZILIENCE show. I did it for you 🙂
@BeyondBuckskin reminds us of the ongoing battle of non-Native artists that continue to break the Indian Arts and Crafts Act and needs to be reported. Follow @BeyondBuckskin ! She’s a great role model and entrepreneur that has brought out many Native artists artwork onto the market. #buynative
So I had the pleasure to partake in an art workshop with Steven Paul Judd and attend the screenings on Saturday 16th at the Loft Cinema in Tucson, AZ. Also, got to be on his Instagram 🙂 and TAGGED ME! haha He is a very intricate and humbled artist; we spoke briefly of his art and told me to about how he came up with ‘The Warriors’ skateboard (which he will sell only 100- 50 at Gatherings of Nations and the other 50 online).
